Meet the Editor
Sarah has been a word nerd since fifth grade, when she got in the habit of correcting her friends’ pronunciation and grammar. Obviously, this made her very popular among her peers. At James Madison University, where she earned a BA in History, she took the research paper peer review process so seriously that she taught her classmates grammar principles while checking the accuracy of their sources. In addition to editing, she works in college prep, developing curriculum to help students prepare for the English sections on the SAT and ACT, as well as tutoring students privately and teaching test prep classes. Her editing experience includes PhD proposals, college admissions essays, professional website copy, academic book reviews, and social media posts.
Sarah lives with her 10-year-old son in College Station, Texas, along with their two cats, Marjorie and Gwendolen. While the cats rarely contribute anything substantive in their editing suggestions, they may occasionally walk across the keyboard to express their opinions.
Editing Services
Line editing examines clarity and flow at the paragraph and sentence level. Word choice, sentence structure, and tone are the primary focus. Line editing removes repetitious words, rewrites awkward phrases, and ensures tone consistency throughout your work.
Copyediting focuses on the mechanics: grammar, capitalization, and punctuation, as well ensuring the whole work adheres to the required style guide. Academic citations (footnotes or endnotes and bibliography) will be checked for correct formatting.
Proofreading is the final check before submission for publication. Typos, like misspellings or spacing issues, will be found and fixed. This level of editing is designed only to catch mistakes that previous edits have missed.
Before editing begins, each client will submit a portion of their manuscript for evaluation. This allows me to determine the level of editing required and to provide an estimate for time and costs, based on my rates for each level of editing.
